22 rifle cleaning rods
Drill a cleaning hole in receiver of a Ruger 10/22?!?
I want to know how I can run a cleaning patch (on a rod or not) through the bore of my 10/22.
I’d hate to have to remove the barrel each time if it means sighting in all over again after cleaning.
I have a bore snake which has worked fine thus far (new rifle, maybe 500 rounds fired total) but it’s going to need a real cleaning soon. I would like to use my MPro-7 products, but I don’t see how that would work with the bore snake (would have to apply bore gel or gun cleaner first, and that strips all oil).
I have instructions on how to drill a hole in the back of the receiver so a cleaning rod can be run through it — except I’m not sure that’s a great idea. [Link: http://www.theworks1022.com/]
Isn’t there a better way to get cleaning patches through a 10/22 than this?
remove the /] and the link will work
Drilling there sounds like a really bad idea, or a really good way to get a blast of burning gunpowder in your face when shooting.
#1 your bore snake should be fine. For additional cleaning you can spray the mpro 7 down the barrel some, or soak the front of the rope in it. or skip using Mpro7 and get a can of outers foaming gun cleaner, and spray that down the barrel. It comes with a bendy hose so you can slip it in from the open bolt and spray it, then let it sit then drag your bore snake through a few times
Otherwise, look at the Otis gun cleaning kit

It is kind of like the boresnake in that it is a bendy string that goes all the way through, but it pulls a patch through it,so you can soak the patch in your Mpro7
finally, 22LR guns seem to do okay running dirty, don’t sweat it too much. While not the best option, a standard gun cleaning kit rod run from the muzzle (with care) works fine. That’s how most people do it.
